Ultimate RW Book Being Updated

Just a quick note:

I've dusted off the master copy of The Ultimate Rapidweaver Book and I am starting the process of updating it.

I should take a few weeks to make sure it's right. The fast start movie will be updated too.

More soon

eBooks Update Information

rw
I have been a bit lax on writing newsletters. Actually, I have been lax on writing posts on my blog too.

Time to rectify that...

Rapidweaver 5 has been out for a while now. I have been waiting for things to settle in on some of the features before doing updates to my eBooks. Though much of the information in my books is still relevant, the location and layout of RW has changed in a few ways. Most notably the removal of Assets and the addition of Resources for adding files to a site project.

Assets was easy to use but could put a burden on the site size and time to upload or republish a site. Resources paves the way to a more lightweight RW Project File and use of the resources site wide. I'm still an advocate of using warehouse folders on your server and linking to these files from within your project. This truly keeps your RW Project File light and fast.

It's finally time to start updating my books with new screenshots, rewrites of some of the text and get updates out to everyone. This may take me a month to do as I have a lot of projects for clients on my plate right now. I will release each update as I get them done.

One important thing to note; if you own and are using FormLoom Styles #9 and #10, where the form is extracted from an exported page and placed back into the RW Project via an HTML page style, the new Resources function will not work for this. FormLoom internal scripts look for certain folders in a specific location and that location no longer exists with the Resources function. The URL or Relative location of the files gets broken in the process of setting up FromLoom as specified in my custom style setup for FormLoom Style #10.

The upshot is, if you have a site using FormLoom Style #10 for a multi column form, keep using RW 4 for that site unless you want to change the form on that site another style or native FormLoom output. I will be looking to find an alternative way to do this in RW5, but in the meantime be careful about moving a site to RW5 with this special form layout.

I hope that 2011 has started out great for you and things are looking up. It has been an interesting few years. There's an old Chinese saying: "May you live in interesting times". That we do. Determining if this saying is a blessing or a curse my be unique to who is reading it...

As alway, thank you for your support. Watch for updates as soon as I can get them done.

The Ultimate Rapidweaver Book Part 1

Welcome the newest member of the Rapidweaver eBook Family: The Ultimate Rapidweaver Book - Part 1

You could call this "The Missing Manual" or better yet: "The Manual That Should Have Been In The Box". No offense to Nik or the Rapidweaver Team. I know they are super busy. So I jumped in...

This book is designed to be used as a reference for anyone using Rapidweaver and is great for those who are new to using Rapidweaver for building websites. I cover every aspect of the stock Rapidweaver application and themes from the time you install it to publishing your first website.

You will learn about all the panels and inspectors, what they do and how to use them. I also show you how to setup and build your first website. A short 13 minute video actually shows you the process as I build a 3 page website in 10 minutes. OK, I talk some too and that adds a few minutes to the movie.
